Multiple Matching: Speakers' Opinions
Aperçu
Several people each say a few sentences about the same topic, and you match each speaker to the opinion they express from a printed list of statements. The catch is that the speakers all talk about the same thing, so listening for the topic gets you nowhere. You have to hear what each person actually thinks about it, which is often signalled softly through tone, a single revealing phrase, or a paraphrase that shares no words with the statement on the page.
This note teaches you to separate opinion from topic, to track each speaker's attitude as it unfolds, and to match on meaning rather than on shared vocabulary, which is the commonest trap. You will also master the small but vital rules that protect your marks: use each letter once, make your final choice unmistakable, and never leave the easy matches to decide the hard ones. Examiner feedback shows where these matches go wrong and how to get them right.
