Cultures and communities never stand still. People move to cities and across borders, new technologies change how we talk and shop, and global trade and media spread ideas, food, music and fashion from one place to another. For some this is exciting progress that brings opportunity and mixes the best of many cultures. For others it threatens languages, traditions and the sense of belonging that holds a community together. Both reactions are real, and Global Perspectives asks you to understand both.
In this lesson you will learn to think about cultural change the GP way. You will weigh why it matters worldwide, set the personal, national and global perspectives side by side, balance the arguments for and against rapid change, and judge realistic courses of action that respect both openness and identity. By the end you will be able to frame a sharp report question on change in culture and communities and back it with current, reliable evidence.
Objectifs
- Explain why change in culture and communities is an issue of global significance and describe its main causes and consequences.
- Compare personal, local/national and global perspectives on change in culture and communities, with empathy and supporting evidence.
- Evaluate evidence, sources and arguments relating to change in culture and communities, distinguishing fact, opinion, bias and vested interest.
- Develop a line of reasoning toward possible evidence-based courses of action on change in culture and communities, and suggest report and team-project angles.
