Resumen
Government policy and international agreements set the framework for economic development and environmental protection, but individual citizens are not just spectators inside that framework. What people buy, which campaigns they support, and which charities they give time or money to, all feed back into how development actually happens on the ground.
In this lesson you will look specifically at economic and environmental citizenship action: ethical purchasing, boycotts and buycotts, campaigning and lobbying on development and environmental issues, community enterprise, and the distinct roles that charities, NGOs, schools and international organisations play in improving access to education in developing countries.
Objetivos
- Ways in which citizens in some countries can assist the development of other societies, including volunteering, campaigning, lobbying politicians for change, ethical purchasing
- Educating others about law-making obstacles in some countries; rights and freedoms of people affected by development processes; environmental issues affected by global change
- Understanding the importance of charities and NGOs in raising awareness and campaigning for global development
- Understanding the work of schools, charities, NGOs, and international organisations in support of improved access to, and quality of, education in developing countries
