Resumen
After the slaughter of the First World War, the world's leaders tried something new: an international organisation that would settle quarrels by talking rather than fighting. The League of Nations was born of a noble hope, that collective security could make another great war impossible. For a few years in the 1920s it seemed to work, calming border disputes and quietly improving millions of lives. Then, in the 1930s, it collapsed in the face of aggression by Japan and Italy.
So was the League a success or a failure? The honest answer is both, and in this lesson you will learn to argue it that way. You will see how the League was built, where it succeeded in the 1920s, how its humanitarian work changed the world for the better, and why it proved powerless against Manchuria and Abyssinia. By the end you will be able to reach a balanced judgement that examiners reward.
