Resumen
Development is not spread evenly across the world, and it is not spread evenly inside any single country either. A child born in one region can expect eight more years of life than a child born a thousand kilometres away under the same flag, taught by the same national curriculum and counted in the same census.
This lesson maps that unevenness at two scales. First you will describe the global pattern and trace the historic, economic and social reasons behind it. Then you will go inside one named country, Brazil, to see how poverty, unemployment, inadequate housing and patchy infrastructure cluster in particular places. Finally you will learn to read the demographic fingerprints, fertility, mortality and population structure, that different levels of development leave behind.

- Global pattern of the uneven development between and within countries and the factors (social, historic and economic) that have led to these spatial variations
- Impact of uneven development on welfare and quality of life within one named country: poverty, unemployment, inadequate housing and physical infrastructure
