According to the book of Exodus, the Israelites were slaves in Egypt and God chose Moses to lead them out of slavery and into the promised land. After a series of plagues and miracles, the Pharaoh finally let the Israelites go. However, soon after leaving Egypt, the Pharaoh changed his mind and pursued the Israelites with his army. The Israelites were trapped between the pursuing army and the Red Sea, but God miraculously parted the sea and allowed the Israelites to pass through safely. After the Israelites had crossed the Red Sea, the pursuing Egyptian army followed them into the sea, but God caused the waters to return and drown the army.
