While in the belly of the fish, Jonah realized the gravity of his disobedience and his need for God's mercy and salvation. He then prayed to God, expressing his repentance and declaring his faith in God's power to save him. It was in this desperate and helpless state, where his soul fainted within him, that Jonah remembered the Lord and called out to Him for deliverance.
