Narrative Writing
Übersicht
Narrative writing is the second composition choice on Paper 2 Section B, worth a full 40 marks. Its job is to tell a story that a reader actually wants to follow: a story with a clear shape, characters who feel real, and moments of tension or surprise that are earned, not announced. The marks reward craft, not plot. A simple situation told with skill beats a complicated one told as a flat list of events, and the candidates who score highest are those who make the reader care about a character, not those who cram in the most happenings.
This lesson shows you how the 40 marks split (16 for content and structure, 24 for style and accuracy), how to shape a story so it rises to a real climax, how to reveal character through what people do and say, and how to craft an opening and an ending that land. You will see a flat opening rewritten into a gripping one, a fully annotated model paragraph, and a complete worked task with a model response.
