Everything else in this qualification can be redrafted. The plan can be revised, the report can be edited until the last hour, the log can be tidied. The presentation happens once, live, in front of people, and then it is over. It is also the only moment when somebody can interrupt you and ask why, and your answer to that question is recorded and submitted with your work.

This lesson covers the two things the specification names here: the requirements of the oral presentation, and the elements that make one succeed. You will see exactly what the specification demands and, just as importantly, what it does not demand, so that you ask your supervisor instead of guessing. Then you will rebuild an opening for an audience that knows nothing about your topic, repair a slide that is trying to be a page, and work out how to answer the three questions that most often go wrong.
